- Risk Management - The systematic application of management, policies, procedures and
practices to the tasks of identifying, analyzing, evaluating, treating
and monitoring risk. ( Reference: Queensland Government website).
|
Additional 2.8
Info - There
are five elements of risk management:
1. Identify, 2.Assess,
3. Reduce, 4. Transfer, 5. Eliminate
The best way to understand how to apply these five elements is to use a
common example. You plan to attend a meeting that is 100 Km away
from your home; however, a winter storm occurs and the weather outlook
is bad.
1. You identify the risk- there's a serious winter storm and driving in
it could result in an accident.
2. You access the risk-having an accident could be life threatening.
3. You reduce the risk-you're driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle equipped
with winter tires.
4. You transfer the risk-you purchase insurance that will cover you in
case you are in an accident.
5. You eliminate the risk-rather than traveling to the meeting, you
decide to attend via conference call.

serious illness in a family and certification examination days.
